Masonry 101 Lintel Replacement
Steel lintels are used in building construction to span the gaps over windows and doors. On larger commercial buildings you will find steel i-beams with steel flanges welded on to create a brick ledge. When water penetrates walls and reaches this steel, rusting can occur. The corrosion causes the steel to expand which can create great pressure within masonry joints causing heaving, cracking, and spalling of the masonry. Inspecting above your windows and doors for such movement is a must. If expansion of the steel is evident, replacement is the fix. With new techniques, the steel is flashed to protect it from any future water damage. More information is available on our services offered page.
